Phenoxyethanol is a germistatic glycol ether and germicidal, phenol ether and aromatic alcohol often used together with quaternary ammonium compounds. It is used as a an insect repellent; perfume fixative; an antiseptic; a solvent for cellulose acetate, dyes, inks, and resins; a preservative for pharmaceuticals, lubricants and cosmetics; an anesthetic in fish aquaculture; and in organic synthesis.
